Kava is also known as ‘awa and piper methysticum. It comes from the roots and stems of a small shrub, and it’s considered non-alcoholic but psychoactive. It’s used in Fiji, Tonga, and Hawaii and has been for many years.
Can kava get you high?It’s also claimed to make you feel relaxed and even a little numb. Some controversial reports, however, also claim kava causes mild hallucinations and can even get you high.
Can you smoke kava?Based on its chemistry, we can tentatively say that using a vaporizer may be onemore effective way that you can smoke kava. If you do decide to try smoking kava, make sure to use only the dried root, or an extract or powder derived from the root— never the plant’s toxic stems or leaves.
How long does it take to feel the effects of kava?Moderately potent kava will usually produce an effect within 20–30 minutes and should last for 2-3 hours. That’s about it for generalisations though – you really need to find your own ‘level’ with kava. Reverse tolerance may take a couple of weeks to a month or more to overcome.
